We have an excellent opportunity for a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join the Private Client Department within a local and highly reputable law firm. This is a full-time, permanent role based from offices in the Chesham area. On offer is a highly competitive basic salary, as well as company bonuses and a variety of employee benefits such as 33 days holiday, flexible working and more.
The Role:
As a Private Client Solicitor, you will be responsible for managing your own case load, acting self-sufficiently and without need for secretarial support. You will assist the head of department with cases, and contribute to the effective operation of the firm, establishing scales of efficiency and actively working to develop new sources of potential income streams for the department.
Duties:
- Maintaining a watching brief over the other fee earners’ files when they are on holiday, sick, etc.
- Proactively building and growing the department and actively developing new sources of potential income streams
- Promoting a positive working environment within the firm
- Marketing and promoting the firm and its service offerings
- Undertaking research on developing areas of law and procedure to remain up to date on key issues
- Maintaining CPD requirements as expected by the firm
- General administrative tasks in relation to individual file management
- Visiting clients, taking instructions
- Writing letters, drafting wills, billing
- Appropriate control of ‘work in progress’
- Keeping clients regularly informed on progress and costs
- Producing articles for website on wills and probate issues on a regular basis
- Utilising social media frequently, in particular LinkedIn and Twitter, to promote the firm and its service offerings
- Running and/or assisting in the running of stalls, trade shows and such like
- Other tasks as requested
Requirements:
- Practising certificate
- Minimum 3 years PQE (post qualification)
- Experience dealing with wills and probate matters
- Experience dealing with Lasting Powers of Attorney
- Experience dealing with Court of Protection (desirable)
- Experience dealing with Tax and Trust matters (desirable)
- Experience attending clients
- Experience drawing up bills
- Experience supervising staff
Practical skills:
- Administration skills to enable self-sufficiency
- Interviewing skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
- Ability to prioritise own workload
- Ability to work as part of a team
Must have a good working knowledge of the SRA Code of Conduct and Accounts Rules.
