Mechanical Estimator needed in Essex – commutable from East London, Dagenham, Dartford, Brentwood, Chelmsford and surrounding areas. We’re working with a respected and growing M&E contractor who are looking to add a sharp, proactive Mechanical Estimator to their pre-construction team. This is a great opportunity to join a busy contractor working on residential, commercial and mixed-use developments across London and the South East.

The Role: As a Mechanical Estimator, you'll play a key role in producing accurate tenders, preparing cost plans, and supporting the bid process for new mechanical works. You’ll be working closely with the Pre-Construction Manager and other internal teams to help secure a pipeline of projects – from plant rooms and heating systems to full mechanical installations. This is a hands-on estimating role where your attention to detail, commercial awareness, and understanding of mechanical systems will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare mechanical estimates and tender submissions for residential and commercial M&E projects
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and scope documents to compile accurate costs
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotes
  • Support bid handovers and assist the delivery team in understanding tender outputs
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative solutions
  • Assist with risk assessments, programme input, and post-tender negotiations
  • Work with internal design and delivery teams to ensure estimates align with buildability and client requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • 2–5 years' experience in a Mechanical Estimator or M&E Estimator role
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and general mechanical systems
  • Familiar with estimating software (Estimation, Trimble, or similar) and Excel
  • Good commercial awareness and knowledge of current market rates
  • Able to read technical drawings and specifications with confidence
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Background in mechanical engineering or building services (HNC/HND or degree preferred)
