An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Resident Doctor Manager for the Transplant, Renal & Urology Directorate. This post is 37.5 hours per week, with shifts from 08:00-16:00 & 09:00-17:00 on a rotating basis. The main purpose of the post is to provide high quality administrative and organisational support to the department's undergraduate and postgraduate medical education faculty by developing, implementing and maintaining effective processes and procedures. This includes coordinating the recruitment, induction and rotations of all junior and middle grade staff within the Department. You will also be responsible for coordinating all leave for the clinicians and recording any sickness absence. The post holder will administer and distribute junior doctors’ rotas and training programme activities, and will be expected to gain a full understanding of junior doctors’ issues in relation to the implementation of the European Working Time Directive and training regulations of the Deanery. The post holder will be expected to manage their workload without supervision and be able to manage competing/conflicting demands on their time.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Being the first point of contact for all Doctors, requiring skills and experience in dealing with individual queries.
  • Demonstrating effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Using initiative and holding advanced IT skills.
  • Working operationally on a busy emergency department floor.
  • Maintaining a database of and monitoring educational supervisor meetings.
  • Supporting departmental teaching, including preparation of relevant materials before presentations or meetings.
  • Supporting quality training targets.
  • Arranging faculty meetings, taking and disseminating minutes.
  • Ensuring that trainees and junior doctors are provided with the appropriate induction and documentation, and providing administrative support to this process.

Education/Qualifications required include a degree level or equivalent experience. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and in a rapidly changing environment is essential.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities required:

  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.
  • A high standard of written skills, evident in correspondence and report writing.
  • Excellent IT skills, including use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Excellent oral communication and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clinicians and colleagues at all levels, both face to face and over the telephone, in an efficient and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Confidence in dealing with busy senior staff within the organisation.
  • Able to work and prioritise effectively under busy, sometimes pressurised situations.
  • Able to work independently, with a strong sense of initiative.
