We are looking for a meticulous and technically proficient Laboratory Test Piece Machining Technician to join our client and contribute to the preparation of high-quality test specimens. This position is well-suited for individuals with a background in precision machining who are eager to expand their expertise in a materials testing environment. In this lab-based role within the machine shop, the technician will operate a range of machining equipment—including CNC machines, lathes, and band saws—to produce test pieces with precise specifications. The position supports the mechanical, metallurgical, and chemical testing operations.
What will you be doing?
- Manufacture test pieces from metal using: CNC milling machines, Manual lathes, Band saws and other cutting tools
- Interpret engineering drawings and machining specifications to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements
- Perform quality checks and basic measurements using micrometers, callipers, and gauges
- Document machining parameters and maintain job records
- The technician will support the senior members of the laboratory with other ad hoc duties as required - e.g., LIMS data entry, record keeping, stock control
