This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to contribute to Thames Water’s mitigation of enforcement risk related to water discharge non-compliance against environmental permits and pollution incidents. You will be part of a team responding to the Environment Agency (EA) across various communication mediums. This high-profile role involves working with our legal team at Eversheds Sutherland and the Environment Agency, providing exposure across all levels of the business and contributing to the company's wider environmental efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Critically review the Team’s Advisors' draft correspondence to EA, supporting criminal investigations into pollution and non-compliance incidents.
  • Assist with managing responses to regulators, ensuring accuracy and demonstrating commitment to environmental stewardship.
  • Interpret scientific reports and environmental data.
  • Prepare statutory and formal requests for information, such as Regulation 61 and Section 108.
  • Support senior leadership and legal teams in interviews under caution and in drafting statements.
  • Contribute to mitigation and defense evidence preparation during prosecutions.

Location & Working Pattern

Hybrid location: average of two days a week at Clearwater Court, Vastern Rd, Reading. Flexible working arrangements available.

Requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Law, Investigations, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and regulatory schemes.
  • Ability to manage projects independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement and report writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
  • Experience in coaching, motivating, and leading colleagues.
  • Experience with environmental and water industry legislation.
  • Willingness to travel across Thames Water area for training and team activities.

Benefits
