NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health care services to over 1.15 million people, extending to a wider population of 2.2 million with regional and national services.

This is a permanent, part-time position of 29.7 hours per week (salary is pro-rata). The shift pattern is 13:40 – 20:00, Monday to Thursday, and 13:58 – 20:00 on Friday.

Role of the Department: To support the smooth operation of Greenock HSCP, acting as a communication hub for facilities management issues and liaising with reception staff and administrators.

Responsibilities:

  • Mail collection, franking, sorting, and distribution internally and externally
  • Managing deliveries within the store room and distributing to departments
  • Ordering and delivering laundry services
  • Disposing of clinical waste and sharps in appropriate containers
  • Preparing rooms for meetings, moving furniture and equipment
  • Responding to alarms with reception staff
  • Managing public equipment, e.g., information screens
  • Flushing taps in seldom-used rooms
  • Checking faults reported by staff and liaising with facilities management
  • Escort and transport of patients and wheelchairs
  • Distributing staff and visitor badges
  • Transporting medical gas cylinders
  • Maintaining building security, checking doors/windows, and managing alarms
  • Cleaning spillages using appropriate kits
  • Changing clinical items within rooms, e.g., curtains
  • Replenishing stock, e.g., sanitisers
  • Following protocols and NHS policies
  • Assisting as fire warden
  • Supporting other HSCP sites as needed
  • Performing other reasonable duties

  • Calm and patient, able to handle irate or upset individuals
