We are looking to recruit experienced casual tutors willing to offer non-certificated courses in community settings around Edinburgh, to further complement our current Adult Education Programme, Outlook Project and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service.

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing service offers empowering courses such as lipreading and British Sign Language (BSL) along with customised programmes designed specifically for the Deaf and hard of hearing community. We are recruiting enthusiastic lipreading and British Sign Language (BSL) tutors to join our team. If you are passionate about teaching and making a difference, we would love to hear from you.

The Outlook Project is an adult learning and guidance service which offers free short courses in a wide range of subjects to people who are accessing mental health services. The service has three terms per year, in which a mix of indoor and outdoor based learning activities take place. Courses span from the arts to social issues, from history to health and wellbeing, as well as lots more. The service is looking to bring in new tutors for programmes in 2025 and beyond.

The Adult Education Programme offers adults an extensive range of learning opportunities across the city. We require to expand our database for the upcoming term to ensure a diversity of subjects and to maintain levels of tutors in popular subjects.

We are looking for tutors who teach:

  • Art
  • Jewellery
  • Music
  • Pilates
  • Woodwork
  • Languages
  • Cookery
  • Upcycling
  • Crafts
  • Yoga
  • History
  • Walks

As well as potential new subjects. Candidates must have a high level of expertise in their chosen field and an in-depth knowledge of the subject they wish to offer. Experience of teaching and relevant qualifications in the subject matter are desirable. Applicants must be available to deliver community-based provision at times to suit learner needs, which include daytime, evening or weekend courses, usually 2 hours a week.

We are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we are bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we are changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
