Temporary position working at the Grantham Community Garden.

Education Required: Bachelor's degree

Education Preferred: Sustainability, biology, environmental science major

Experience Required: None

Experience Preferred: Working on a small-scale farm or extensive gardening

Skills, Characteristics Required For Position:

  • Able to work 4-8 hours/day outside in all weather conditions
  • Be independent and self-motivated
  • Enjoy physical labor, as this job requires a great deal of lifting and working with garden and farm tools
  • Possess good customer service skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Minimal after-hours or weekend work required for planting, watering, or feeding chickens

Special Working Conditions: Outdoor work means exposure to the sun and insects. Must have a valid driver's license. Physical labor includes bending, lifting, kneeling, and standing for prolonged periods of time.

Driving Requirements: Must be a licensed driver and be comfortable driving a pick-up truck.

Duties:

  • Primary Duties:
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
  • Planting and harvesting crops
  • Running farm stands
  • Garden maintenance including weeding, pest and disease control, trellising, pruning, raised bed construction, etc.
  • Regular watering, including weekends
  • Chicken keeping, including daily watering, feeding, and coop repairs
  • Secondary Duties: Other duties as assigned
