St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Edinburgh is seeking a Second Bass Lay Clerk to join Scotland's leading Cathedral Choir from the autumn term (exact start date negotiable). This position is suitable for applicants comfortable singing second bass.
About the Cathedral and Choir
Located in Edinburgh, the Cathedral is a hub for music in Scotland’s capital. The choir sings weekday services in the Anglican choral tradition and has an international reputation through recordings. The new Bass Lay Clerk will be a confident singer with high-level experience, with opportunities for additional singing work through the Cathedral Consort.
Responsibilities and Schedule
- Singing approximately 12 hours per week during term time
- Services: Tuesday – Friday, with rehearsals at 4.55 pm and services at 5.30 pm
- Sunday services at 9.45 am and 2.45 pm, with short rehearsals after Evensong on Tuesdays and Thursdays (until 7 pm)
- Days off: Mondays and Saturdays (except for occasional events)
- Two-week August residency during the Festival
- Attendance at major feasts (Christmas, Holy Week, Easter) is required
