Here at NCHA we have a fantastic opportunity for the right person to join our friendly and supportive team at Branching Out Retford as a Young Person’s Support Worker. You’ll be able to develop your skills and experience with us as we provide all the training you need to excel in the role.
The Role
At Branching Out Retford, we’re on a mission to provide a safe space, a listening ear and life-changing support for young people. Every day, you’ll play a key role in helping them to rebuild their lives and achieve their goals. This busy and dynamic service provides support to encourage our young people to be the best version of themselves. Our Retford project offers a strengths-based support service which aims to build the skills, confidence, and independence of the young people who come through our doors.
Our team plays a critical role in advocating for our tenants. From liaising with agencies to help them access permanent accommodation to supporting them to access education or employment training. The role will include but is not limited to:
- Supporting service users/tenants to express themselves and make informed choices and decisions about their lives in a way that respects their dignity and rights.
- Devise and implement individual care and/or support plans with risk assessments that are not risk-averse. These may include one or more of the following examples:
- Supporting service users to live as independently as possible
- Accessing work, education or training
- Enjoying leisure time, activities, and cultural beliefs in the community
What we are looking for
Are you confident and resilient with previous experience working with Young People? If the answer is yes, then we have the perfect role for you. We are looking for individuals with previous experience of working with Young People and who have an understanding of the challenges young people face, childhood trauma and its effects. If you’ve worked as a teaching assistant, youth worker or even volunteered with Young People, we want to hear from you.
Our ideal candidate would be:
- A compassionate, proactive, and non-judgemental attitude.
- Have experience in support work or a related field (or a passion to learn!)
- Able to build trust and rapport with young people
- A person who has drive to make a difference, one life at a time.
- A person with a patient and assertive nature.
Due to the location of the role, having a driving licence and access to a vehicle would be highly desirable. Male Support Workers are currently under-represented in this area and we particularly welcome suitable applications.
Working Hours
Working on a rota basis means you will need to be flexible over a 7-day rota. Our service operates 24/7, however typical shift patterns are 07:00 – 14:30 and 14:30 – 22:00. All successful candidates will be required to take a work-related test prior to the interview.
Please note that we are not currently offering visa sponsorship. Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis. Previous applicants and colleagues re-applying will be reviewed at the manager’s discretion. We may close this vacancy early should we receive sufficient interest.
