The consultancy provides expert ecological services to a diverse range of clients across the UK. Specializing in European Protected Species work, Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs), ecological assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), BREEAM assessments, and more, the company is committed to delivering high-quality services and helping clients achieve their environmental goals. The consultancy is now looking to expand its team with a motivated and skilled Ecologist to contribute to the growth and success of the team.

Role Overview

The Ecologist will play a key role in supporting the consultancy's diverse project portfolio. This includes working on projects such as BREEAM, tendering and subscription databases, and overseeing ecological surveys across the UK. The role is primarily home-based, with a well-equipped office provided by the company. The Ecologist will report directly to the Senior Ecologist. While much of the work is home-office based, there will be regular travel across the UK to service various projects. The Ecologist will be expected to carry out ecological surveys, draft reports, and contribute to the consultancy’s continued success and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct ecological surveys and assessments across a variety of UK-based projects
  • Prepare reports, including ecological assessments, BREEAM, and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA)
  • Work on European Protected Species (EPS) projects, including bat licensing and other species work
  • Support project management and assist with tendering and subscription database tasks
  • Represent the consultancy in a professional manner at all times
  • Work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree in Ecology or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of the UK's biodiversity legal and policy framework
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Experience in writing ecological reports and assessments
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office software
  • A full driving license
  • Knowledge of BREEAM assessments
  • EPS license holder, particularly with bat licensing experience
  • Experience in delivering biodiversity chapters and Habitat Regulations Assessments
  • Experience working with Local Authorities
  • Specialism in a particular field of ecological consultancy (e.g., habitat restoration, species protection)
  • GIS experience
