iPeople SC Solutions is currently recruiting for a Social Worker to work for our client based in Barnstaple, Devon. The role is full time (37 hours per week) within the Permanency and Transition (P&T) team. Although the role is based in Taw View, Barnstaple, many of the team are currently working remotely from home, but will need to be in the area to complete visits when necessary.

The Permanency and Transition Service works with children in care and care experienced young people. The service is supported by learning advocates from the Virtual School, careers advisors, Entry to education workers, a housing pathway coordinator, and homelessness prevention workers, as well as by our partners in health and other key agencies. P&T is a developing service with exciting plans that will support our children and young people to achieve the best outcomes possible.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic social worker to work within the P&T service, which works with children in care and care experienced young people up to the age of 25. Our social workers work with young people until 18 in partnership with PAs who are collocated. As a worker, you will build long-term relationships with children and young people and help them reach their full potential. You will be a team player, and the ability to engage and communicate with young people is essential.

You should have a sound knowledge of the legislation and regulations surrounding children in care and care experienced young people and the ability to apply this to practice. The work includes occasional Court Work, linked to achieving permanence for our children and young people. The role also involves managing adolescent risk, and a good understanding of contextual safeguarding is desirable.

  • Preparing Care/Pathway Plans.
  • Undertaking statutory CiC reviews and visits.
  • Managing adolescent contextual risk.
  • Supervising, supporting, and mentoring young people who are moving into independent living.

The Service welcomes candidates committed to improving the lives of children and young people and who can demonstrate behaviours that positively contribute to service development. We work with children and young people in care planning for their future and when their permanence plan is established after care proceedings have concluded. We are corporate parents and our role is to ensure that the care, health, and education needs of children in care are met and that they achieve good outcomes through relationship-based work.

We plan for the future so they can leave care with the skills that they need in adulthood and consider reunification where appropriate. We work in well-supported and friendly teams. An agreed weekly agency accommodation/commuter travel allowance of up to £150 per week is offered for those living 50 miles or more from their work base. Devon is a mostly rural county, and as our localities cover a large area, candidates can be expected to travel some distance between visits. In some areas, candidates will not be able to rely on walking, cycling, or public transport to make visits and should therefore have access to their own suitable transport, subject to reasonable adjustments that may need to be made in line with the Equality Act 2010.
