Commercial Director Construction

Position: Commercial Director

Location: Winchester with hybrid working available

Salary: 120k+ (Neg DOE), car/allowance, bonus and excellent benefits package

Our Client: Is an integrated design and build solution provider operating in the water sector. They have over 1,000 staff working across eight regional centres, primarily supporting eight long-term water sector frameworks, operating both independently and increasingly in joint ventures and alliances.

The Role

Our client seeks to strengthen their Commercial team with a Senior Commercial Manager/Commercial Director based in the Southern Water Region. The role involves managing a large project valued at circa 150m, providing commercial support and leadership to ensure the project is delivered within budget and on time.

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with company objectives.
2. Contract Management: Oversee contract negotiations, ensuring they serve our client’s best interests.
3. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate commercial risks proactively.
4. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
5. Change Management: Manage contract changes proactively.
6. Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, control costs, and enhance profitability.
7. Team Leadership: Mentor and supervise the commercial team to meet departmental goals.

Experience & Qualifications

1. Proven experience in a commercial management role, preferably within the water sector.
2. Experience managing projects valued over 100m successfully.
3. BSc or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction field.
4. Professional qualification with RICS, ICES, or CIOB.
5. Deep knowledge of NEC, PSC, and ECC contracts with clients and supply chains.
6. Strong understanding of commercial and financial processes in large-scale projects.
7. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
8. Experience in senior management roles and delivering strategic business objectives.
9. Leadership skills and the ability to develop best practices and future strategies.
