Job Description

Position: Industrial Instructor I – Upholstery Shop (250000LZ)

Description

Duties:

1. Instructor in an upholstery shop involved in upholstery manufacturing operations.
2. Assist with production planning, manufacturing engineering, product development, work assignments to incarcerated individuals, quality, safety, machine operation, security, tool control, instruction, training and profitability of the shop.
3. Check in all incarcerated individuals and account for their presence at all times.
4. Maintain tool control as required by DOC policy and regulations.
5. Maintain accurate accounting and inventory records within ERP TBS system, including cost control, generating and managing input for backlog and status summary reports weekly.
6. Responsible for the computation of all estimates and product cost sheets of finished products.
7. Plan stock and raw material needs for production and submit purchase order requisitions timely.
8. Maintain security and perform required security checks on a regular basis.
9. Set schedules, perform and record preventive maintenance, service and inspections on all equipment.
10. Assist with establishing training for shop including cross training and vendor supplied courses.
11. Coordinate with appropriate departmental staff to ensure that EPA, DEQE, OSHA, and ACA standards are met.
12. Responsible for progress reviews of incarcerated individuals.
13. Follow all DOC and MassCor policies and procedures as outlined in power DMS.
14. Attend all meetings as requested.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

**SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS:

1. A PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION
2. DRUG SCREENING
3. OSHA RESPIRATOR MEDICAL EVALUATION
4. BACKGROUND CHECK
5. MUST ATTEND A FOUR (4) WEEK RECRUIT ACADEMY

Preferred Qualifications:

1. 2 years’ experience in a related position and trade apprenticeship or technical training of at least two years (or equivalent of the job training and experience).
2. Must possess a high degree of technical/business versatility.
3. Ability to deal with the unique problems of training, controlling and motivating incarcerated individuals while maintaining security.

Comments:

This is a Civil Service position. Candidate must take and pass the next Civil Service Examination for this title. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must have no felony convictions. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution, or has been convicted of engaging in sexual activity facilitated by force, threats, or coercion.
