Anticipated full-time appointment. Located at the Queensbury Elementary School, Special Class. Effective asap, 10 month position, 7 hours per day. Starting salary: $15.59 per hour, actual salary based on education and experience pursuant to the wage schedule posted on the district's website.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Provides non-teaching services under the general supervision of certified personnel.
  • Supervises students & performs such other services as supporting teaching duties when such services are determined and supervised by a teacher.
  • Works with individuals or small groups to review progress in remedial reading or mathematics comprehension.
  • Attends to physical care tasks and health-related activities as appropriate, including but not limited to:
  • Lifts, moves, and operates adaptive equipment.
  • Lifts and rotates students as necessary.
  • Assists students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to, lavatory, clothing, hygiene, diapering, toileting, and wash-up routines.
  • Escorts students as assigned by teacher or administrator.
  • Assists students with mobility needs such as, lifting and positioning students, lifting in and out of wheelchairs; loading and unloading on the bus; transporting students in and around the school and on field trips.
  • Assists student on playground (including lifting student into adaptive swing or climbing equipment).
  • Helps student change into swimwear and get in and out of pool areas.
  • Assists child in PE and other Specials.
  • Attends to children in case of evacuation (ability to lift and scoop, lift out window).
  • Assists students with behavioral/management needs including but not limited to implementing behavioral plans, employing de-escalation strategies, engaging in physical restraints.
  • Assists in proctoring and other tasks related to the administration of examinations.
  • Assists with study hall, corridor, lunchroom, & other monitoring duties.
  • Assists in correcting test papers, recording of grades, maintaining of files and preparing of statistical reports.
  • Able to fulfill physical condition suitable to the demands of the position.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Significant standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Must have the ability to lift 60 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks. Must pass written and physical Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Strategies (TCIS) tests and maintain TCIS certification.
