Ordnance Survey (OS) is a technology focused data business, creating and delivering high quality and trusted location data to generate insights for people, businesses, and government. With valuable location data and expertise, built on over 230 years of experience, OS are maintaining the UK’s position as number two in the world for geospatial capability. OS hold and maintain vast foundational location data, providing an invisible fabric which underpins the things we take for granted every day – transport, utilities, housing, logistics.

OS help the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) on its mission to deliver improved public services and grow the economy. OS data and expertise underpins critical economic activities such as utilities, asset management, planning applications, and public services such as emergency response, mountain rescue, and flood defence planning. Companies like Vodafone and Sainsbury’s use the locations of OS Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) to ensure parcels are efficiently delivered. OS are used ubiquitously by utilities and telecoms providers. SSE use OS location information to maintain 48,500km of high-voltage powerlines. BT, Altnets, and Ofcom use OS products to manage national telecoms infrastructure.

OS has a refreshed strategy and aims to expand the volume and value of location-related insights by both improving the applicability of OS data and dramatically expanding its use. OS are now seeking a Chief Customer Officer (CCO) to lead the Customer team to drive more destinations for their products delivering measurable value and impact to customers and channel partners. OS seek a commercially minded individual with excellent communications capability who will help evolve the current business and go-to-market strategy. The CCO will need to understand and connect to the OS mission, working alongside a high performing executive team, delivering outstanding leadership to the customer team (120 FTE).

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong commercial background; an individual with experience monetising data into products and services.
  • A well regarded, influential leader with the resilience to operate effectively in both public sector and commercial markets.
  • Strong experience of leading sales teams and innovating to continuously improve and drive growth.
  • Strong experience of delivering business growth – sales, revenue, value and economic impact through an indirect sales model.
  • Able to transform business models and go-to-market approach.
  • Enjoys leading a balanced and changing portfolio of value add and revenue generating opportunities.
  • Must be comfortable measuring success through a range of qualitative and quantitative measures.
  • Demonstrable experience of working across vertical market sectors, such as Transport and Financial Services be that delivery to government, business, or consumers.
  • Growth mindset – thrives on change, driving change and transformational aspects of technology / processes / people.
  • Demonstrable experience of driving high performance through nurturing people capability and effective ways of working.
  • Intellectually curious; a high EQ - from a customer / partner perspective and internal management of stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker, but comfortable to roll sleeves up and ‘get stuck in’.
  • Collaborative and influential with ability to question at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong reasoning skills and financially astute.
  • Proven competency in strategic planning and business development.
