Regional Engagement Officer ED

We’re looking for a passionate Regional Engagement Officer – South West and South Wales to join our Group Corporate Affairs team!

The External Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement team manages relationships with political, business, and media stakeholders across the region, telling NGED\’s story and creating a favorable policy environment for the company’s priorities.

The Corporate Affairs department aims to protect, preserve, and enhance the reputation of the National Grid. The Electricity Distribution Corporate Affairs (EDCA) supports the Electricity Distribution Business (NGED), serving 20 million customers across the Midlands, South West, and Wales.

This role is based in our Cwmbran or Bristol office, with a flexible working pattern, ideally two days in the office per week, but more if preferred. We welcome discussions on flexible working arrangements.

What You\’ll Do

1. Support public affairs and community engagement campaigns, including day-to-day engagement with external stakeholders such as MPs, Senedd Members, Metro Mayors, Councillors, trade associations, and business groups.
2. Manage MP, MS, councillor, and stakeholder casework, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and systematically tracked.
3. Represent NGED at events, conferences, and public meetings in Wales and the South West, safeguarding the company’s voice and reputation.
4. Maintain an updated stakeholder map for Welsh and South West license areas.
5. Assist the Stakeholder Engagement team in managing external contacts and sharing intelligence.
6. Create and edit content for internal and external communications, including blogs, intranet, speeches, Q&A, scripts, and presentations.
7. Support public affairs and community engagement campaigns with messaging, stakeholder mapping, and planning.
8. Contribute to government and regional consultations, parliamentary inquiries, and prepare briefings and materials for executives and boards.
9. Draft materials for representations to committees, debates, and influential events.
10. Collaborate with the Corporate Affairs team on campaigns, projects, and communication content.

What You\’ll Have

1. Degree or postgraduate qualification preferred, but relevant experience is acceptable.
2. Understanding of Welsh and South West politics, stakeholder networks, and UK political environment.
3. Experience working with internal stakeholders in large organizations, delivering public affairs activities.
4. Experience organizing stakeholder events and responding to policy consultations.
5. Ability to communicate complex policies clearly and adapt messaging for different audiences.
6. Strong writing, editing, and content creation skills under tight deadlines.
7. Creative, innovative, and adaptable communication style.
8. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships at all levels.
9. Experience working with senior managers in a multi-stakeholder environment.
