Overview
Join the Central Laser Facility (CLF) at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory to work on the UK Programme of Laser Inertial Fusion Technology for Energy (UPLiFT). This 4-year, £10M research initiative funded by the UK government aims to develop science and technology for laser inertial fusion energy (IFE). You will be part of a multidisciplinary team focusing on targetry work within UPLiFT.
Responsibilities
- Operate and optimize microfluidic systems for spherical shell target production.
- Develop characterization methods for capsules, including sphericity, shell wall thickness, and surface roughness using high-precision analytical tools.
- Collaborate with university partners and external experts to enhance target fabrication processes.
- Support experimental campaigns and work closely with scientists to produce high-quality targets.
Qualifications
- Masters degree, PhD, or equivalent experience in materials science, chemistry, physics, or related fields.
- Experience in target fabrication and characterization techniques.
- Ability to manage projects independently and work within a team.
- Experience with modeling or simulations related to foam structures is desirable.
