We are currently recruiting three Vessel Traffic Services Operators (VTSO) to join our Port Operations team.
Vessel Traffic Services Operators (VTSO) are responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels within the Belfast Harbour VTS area of responsibility. Working from the VTS operations room, VTSOs maintain a constant watch on vessel traffic using the Port Management Information System (PMIS), RADAR, AIS, VHF, and CCTV to plan, monitor, and coordinate maritime movements and associated services such as pilotage and towage. They provide real-time traffic information and navigational assistance to vessels, ensuring compliance with statutory and harbour requirements.
In addition to managing marine traffic, VTSOs continuously assess and respond to navigational hazards, adverse weather conditions, and vessel incidents, mitigating potential risks. They play a key role in emergency response and incident management, working closely with the Harbour Master and other stakeholders. VTSOs also contribute to port security, marine environmental protection, and regulatory compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
