Red Snapper Recruitment are looking for a Dementia Plus Advocate to join our client, a local charity who offers services to help and support victims of domestic abuse.

FTC until 31st March 2027, possibility of extension subject to funding. Part time - 21 hours per week. Stockport based, with regular travel across the borough. £15,893 per annum, rising by 4% upon successful completion of probationary period.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST: The Dementia Plus Advocate will deliver safeguarding and therapeutic services to individuals aged 65 and over who are impacted by domestic abuse, where either the victim or perpetrator has a diagnosis of dementia. The post holder will provide personalised, dementia-sensitive support and raise awareness across the borough by delivering training to equip practitioners with the knowledge and tools to recognise and respond to abuse in the context of cognitive impairment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one support and safeguarding interventions to older adults impacted by domestic abuse and dementia.
  • Conduct dementia-sensitive risk assessments and develop personalised safety plans that reflect cognitive function, capacity, and communication needs.
  • Use specialist engagement techniques (e.g. allowing extra time, revisiting topics, using tailored communication tools).
  • Promote the rights of individuals to make informed decisions, ensuring compliance with the Mental Capacity Act.
  • Work in partnership with carers, families, and professionals to reduce risk and promote long-term wellbeing.
  • Support service users to increase social connections, reduce isolation, and access suitable care arrangements.
  • Advocate around the appropriate use of financial tools (e.g. Power of Attorney) and promote financial safeguarding.
  • Design and deliver bespoke, thematic training sessions for social workers, carers, and care providers.
  • Raise awareness through borough-wide campaigns, events, and workshops on domestic abuse in older adults with dementia.

Experience

  • NVQ Health and social care or equivalent.
  • Structured domestic abuse qualification or equivalent.
  • Supporting victims of domestic abuse and/or those with dementia.
  • Risk assessment and safety planning, including use of DASH or other tools.
  • Working with vulnerable adults in crisis.
  • Multi-agency working and safeguarding.
