Polar Speed, a UPS Company, is a logistics company and innovative provider of temperature sensitive transportation and pharmaceutical supply chain solutions in the UK. Owing to expansion, we now require 2 x Class 2 HGV Driver Nights and Days for our busy Leighton Buzzard depot.

Class 2 HGV Driver

BASED: UPS Polar Speed Distribution Ltd, 8 Chartmoor Road, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, LU7 4WG

SALARY: £32,125.81 P/A (40 hours), £38,563.20 P/A (48 hours)

HOURS: Monday to Friday – 9am start – finish time between 5pm-6pm traffic/route dependant.

The company specialises in active temperature-controlled deliveries to hospitals, pharmacies, wholesalers, and medical care surgeries, as well as to end patients through its homecare business. Its customers include some of the best-known pharmaceutical brands in the world.

As a Class 2 Licence driver, you’ll make collections and deliveries of pharmaceutical consignments to/from pharmaceutical distribution centres and Polar Speed depots, where for some drops you will assist with the loading and unloading. You’ll work a minimum of 40 hours per week (average 48 hours per week) and must be flexible and prepared to work additional hours as and when required to meet our service requirements, which may be of an urgent medical nature.

For this role, you can expect to work on a Monday to Friday basis; this may include Bank holidays or Saturdays at a time and a half rate of £23.17 per hour. Key responsibilities:

1. Check and scan all consignments
2. Assist with the loading/unloading of deliveries
3. Complete daily safety checks of vehicle and refrigeration unit
4. Deliver consignments on an accurate and timely basis ensuring products stay within the required temperature range
5. Ensure that records of deliveries are electronically captured and driver manifests are completed
6. Maintain daily communications to provide service updates
7. Demonstrate professional and safe driving competency at all times
8. Present a smart working appearance at all times

Key Skills/Experience:

1. A minimum of 2 years’ driving experience
2. Must hold a C category (UK) driving licence (ideally no more than 3 points)
3. Previous relevant experience advantageous
4. Excellent communication and customer service skills
5. Ability to build effective working relationships with customers/clients, whilst appreciating the need for maintaining confidentiality
6. Good organisation skills with the ability to prioritise
7. Good team player and able to work on your initiative
