Cambridge University Boat Club – Fleet and Facilities Co-ordinator (part-time)
Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC) is looking to appoint a Fleet and Facilities Co-ordinator. This is a new role supporting the Head Coaches and coaching team with the day-to-day rowing operations of the Club, to ensure that the Club’s fleet and rowing facilities at the Ely Boathouse and Goldie Boathouse in Cambridge are in the condition expected by a world-leading university rowing club.
As part of a small team, this role requires considerable flexibility to provide support across a range of tasks and different locations.
CUBC is independent of the University and operates a year-round rowing programme with a focus on its student-athletes preparing for the annual Boat Race with Oxford in the Spring for women’s and men’s openweight, reserve, and lightweight eights.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- The maintenance and updating of CUBC fleet of boats and launches and training equipment at the Ely Boathouse and at Goldie Boathouse.
- Liaising with manufacturers/repairers externally to transport boats to and from the facilities for major repairs/refurbishment.
- Keeping the boat-bays and storage cupboards tidy and ordered.
- Keeping track of spare parts stock and updating as necessary.
- Setting up and checks on telemetry and liaising with suppliers for repairs and replacements.
- Keep landing stages clean and repair them if needed.
- Keep the coaching launches in good condition including hulls and decks.
- Basic maintenance of the launch engines and to arrange annual servicing of engines.
- Keep safety equipment in order including (but not exclusively):
o Launch safety bags (as suggested by British Rowing RowSafe).
o Lifejackets (annual testing and keep stock of spare CO2 cannisters for replacement). - General repairs and maintenance of training equipment at Goldie.
- Maintain a detailed and accurate inventory of all CUBC equipment at the Ely Boathouse, and training equipment at Goldie and other locations.
- Co-ordinate the sale of CUBC equipment and purchase of new equipment.
- Carry out routine safety checks on equipment and facilities at Goldie Boathouse.
- Prepare paperwork for overseas travel of CUBC’s equipment to training camps.
- Prepare risk assessments for new equipment and processes and review them on a regular basis.
- Maintain compliance of processes with British Rowing and University Sports Centre requirements.
- Arrange maintenance, repair, and MOT of the fleet of minibuses.
- Trailer driving to and from London for Tideway weekends and away for some training camps where needed in support of the coaches.
- Supporting coaches and rowing squad as required during Boat Race week.
Job Requirements
- Demonstrated proficiency in boat and equipment maintenance.
- Clean B+E driving licence.
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team.
