Canopy Simulations leverages its foundation in writing cutting-edge simulations for Formula One to offer expertise to a diverse array of customers in motorsport, autonomous vehicles, automotive, and even America's Cup sailing. Our clients include top-tier teams from F1, F2, FE, WEC, and IndyCar. Canopy is a UK-registered, natively remote business, which has been part of the Michelin Group since April 2023.
As part of our team you will gain an understanding of how the best commercially available simulation tools work and what separates the leading cars in global motorsports from the rest. You’ll have exceptional understanding of the mathematical and physical principles which underpin vehicle performance, and the skills to translate these concepts into our evolving simulation software. A good degree in engineering is a pre-requisite for applying.
Applicants must have the following attributes:
- Experience in race car vehicle dynamics, vehicle science, vehicle performance, or vehicle modelling
- Experience in numerical simulation, optimisation, control of nonlinear systems, or a related field
- Prior coding experience in an object oriented language; C++ is an advantage
- Demonstrable ability in physical modelling, in particular an understanding of the maths and physics underlying physical systems
- A desire to work remotely, with great written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with our highly talented team of remote engineers.
Duties include:
- Developing our state-of-the-art vehicle model and simulation tool in response to changing client requirements and motorsport regulations
- Evaluating the performance of new and existing features in the vehicle model and simulation tool against real-world expectations to identify potential bugs and improve simulation results
- Liaising with clients to translate feedback and requests into clear written and verbal specifications for new features, and then implementing these features to enable clients to extract the best possible value from our tools
- Contributing to our suite of in-house test, development, and visualisation tools used for automated validation of our software releases.
