This role is a critical part of CNN’s robust editorial oversight process, ensuring that the output of our most important stories meet the highest standards of accuracy. This is an editorial leadership position both on theFactcheck team and in the newsroom, and you will take a leading role in shaping our multiplatform coverage, particularly on the specialist subject of Russian affairs. Your Role Accountabilities… Network-wide script and story approval, including material with sensitive and controversial content. To ensure every story meets a high standard of accuracy, quality, fairness and balance, while minimizing the risk of defamation, libel and copyright or fair-use infringement. To be assigned difficult and complex stories to approve for air and publication, including investigative reporting and long-form documentaries. Approving single/anonymous sources. To ensure the completed stories or other editorial material are in a publishable state, and meet the network’s output needs. Act as a key link with CNN’s Standards and Practices, and Legal, departments, including the responsibility for judging when to call on those resources. Responsibility for a specialist coverage area – in this case, Russian affairs. As part of those responsibilities, you will help guide the network’s coverage of this specialist area. Contribute explanatory or analytical work in your specialist subject for digital platforms, in written and video form. You may also appear on air as specialist analyst. Qualifications & Experience… Proven experience as a field reporter or producer, with additional experience at a senior editorial level with responsibility for signing off digital stories for publication, scripts for newscasts or TV packages, or similar. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to catch mistakes that other editors would miss. The ability to make swift decisions on important editorial matters. An understanding of the importance of maintaining CNN’s reputation for accuracy and fairness, and the choices required to maintain that reputation. Strong experience of multiplatform journalism and an understanding of the changing contours of the business. Deep knowledge and understanding of your specialist subject, with extensive back catalog of written material and/or on-air contributions. Hybrid Working – This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
