This challenging and exciting opportunity as Major Projects Director requires a highly qualified professional possessing a strong technical background and demonstrable experience in operating as a senior leader within the power utility or high voltage (HV) power sectors. Hybrid working is available, with regular presence required in the Midlands office, and UK-wide travel when necessary. Due to increased contract awards, a significant forward order workload, and a dedication to long-term profitable growth, our client seeks an experienced Major Projects Director for their power division. You will be a senior operational leader responsible for delivering multiple contracts, projects, and frameworks, contributing to business goals. You will provide expertise to the operations leadership team and the wider business to secure future work, identify and mitigate risks, and achieve operational excellence and delivery efficiencies. The Person Graduate calibre with high technical competence, a relevant business qualification, and senior experience in recognized utility or HV power organizations Fully commercially aware, experienced in managing large budgets across dispersed regions Excellent people management skills, along with advanced financial and organizational abilities Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of acting persuasively at a senior level Highly customer-focused, anticipating the company\’s needs Proactive in offering solutions to improve processes and efficiencies Effective task planning to ensure timely and standard-compliant completion Collaborative team player committed to delivering results and supporting colleagues Knowledge sharing and role modeling to inspire others The Role Manage operations and teams delivering utility infrastructure services Report to the Managing Director, supporting priority setting, planning, and policy development Oversee P&L, managing costs and operational efficiencies Support stakeholder engagement with external parties (LAs, DNOs, Suppliers, Subcontractors) Drive project delivery to meet business expectations Develop and lead teams to meet KPIs, quality, and audit standards Support the development of standardized systems and processes Optimize resource utilization within the group Mentor staff to accept greater responsibility and accountability Manage team headcount through retention and recruitment Collaborate across teams to ensure clear communication and implementation Ensure customer satisfaction remains a priority Build and maintain relationships with clients and external stakeholders Maintain commercial awareness of the business’s financial position Monitor and report on financial and operational performance monthly Manage budgets and costs, supporting the commercial team in bidding and securing projects Enhance operational processes and systems for value and quality Ensure all technical work meets the highest standards of quality Our Client Our client aims to be the UK\’s leading provider of utilities and power infrastructure across sectors.
