We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong technical actuarial or investment background to join fast growing international Funded Reinsurance solutions area within Savings & Retirement Division of Pacific Life Re. There is an increasing demand for reinsurance to support clients from different countries in offering solutions that can transfer both longevity and asset risk. This role offers an opportunity to make a difference as a part of small dynamic team.

We are looking for a candidate with strong technical background and clear interest to develop professionally in the investment related area. They will be working closely within a small ALM team on managing investment risk of assets and derivatives on the balance sheet and contributing to investment strategy for new business. They will work closely with more senior members of the ALM team and wider in-house investment team as well as wider stakeholders including Treasury, Finance, Corporate Actuarial, Risk, Ops and client facing teams.

Funded reinsurance is a recently launched proposition which means the candidate will be exposed to a wide range of tasks and will have the opportunity to shape the proposition and the operating model going forward. The successful candidate will be able to work successfully in a fast-changing environment on a wide range of issues.

The role is in the ALM & Asset Strategy team of Savings & Retirement Division. Responsibilities of the role are likely to include the following areas, depending on experience of the individual candidate:

  • Working closely with the internal portfolio management team on setting investment assumptions for pricing.

  • Help putting together execution plans for reinsurance transactions.

  • Producing Management Information for divisional Asset Liabilities Committee (ALCO) – the main meeting for managing investment performance of funded reinsurance business.

  • Providing input into regular oversight and stress testing of derivatives to manage liquidity.

  • Working with various corporate stakeholders on ad hoc queries, including Reinsurance Pricing, Portfolio Management, Risk, Corporate Actuarial, Finance etc.

  • Assisting senior team members on developing the execution plan for reinsurance transactions.

  • Intellectual curiosity. Willingness to develop in the investment area.

  • Strong technical modelling skills.

  • Good understanding of investment risks (interest rates, FX, credit, liquidity) in the context of life insurance – either through past experience or education.

  • Strong self-organization skills, ability to meet deadlines. Ability to sense-check own work before sending out to a senior colleague for review.

  • Being able to work in a flexible, dynamic environment with occasional high-pressure deadlines based around transaction process.
