At Ward, our Canine team act as a visual deterrent. Through rapid response and behaviour detection skills, our canine division are dedicated to keeping sites and individuals safe. We cover sites across the UK, but this role will be based in Kent and surrounding areas.
As a Contract Support Dog Handler, you will need to be physically fit as you will be patrolling a number of sites ensuring a safe and secure environment for our clients. Although no experience is required, you will need to have a valid SIA and a full manual UK driving licence. You will also need to have a suitable home for our highly trained dogs. Ward Security will provide full training, a highly trained dog, dog food and cover veterinary care costs.
Pay Rate: From £11.44- £17/hour (site dependent)
Shift Pattern/Availability: Days/ Nights/ Weekends (full 24/7 availability is essential)
Contract Type: Permanent, zero-hour contract. 3 guaranteed shifts per week

Main Duties:
- Conduct regular patrols with a trained security dog to deter and detect potential security threats
- Respond promptly and effectively to security incidents and emergencies
- Maintain a high level of vigilance and situational awareness at all times
- Ensure the welfare and proper handling of the security dog, including regular training, feeding, and grooming
- Complete detailed incident reports and maintain accurate records of daily activities
- Provide excellent customer service to our clients and the public
Must Haves:
- Valid SIA Licence
- Valid clean manual UK driving licence
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Good interpersonal skills
- Excellent observational and decision-making skills
- Physical fitness and the ability to handle the demands of the job, including patrolling and responding to incidents
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work alone as well as in a team
- Able to read and write coherent sentences to construct legible reports including incident reports that may be required for the police
