What You'll Do:
Your Impact: Visited by more than 350,000 people annually, Crane Beach remains a national model for balancing conservation of diverse natural habitats and wildlife—more than 1,200 acres of beachfront, dunes, and maritime forest grace the property—with the management of active public recreation. Our seasonal team members are the driving force for creating a safe, mission-driven, and memorable experience for all Crane Estate visitors.
The Role: As a Lifeguard at Crane Beach, you are on duty daily from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day. You will provide a safe environment to the patrons at Crane Beach, both in the water and out. You will keep vigilant supervision over your respective duty station and must have the ability to act professionally and promptly in dangerous or life-threatening situations.
Specifically, you'll:
- Provide a supervised and safe swimming area within the guarded section of the beach.
- Ensure patrons follow posted rules and regulations.
- Provide emergency care to patrons in the swim area and other sections of the property.
- Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.
- Maintain all safety equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
- Participate in daily workouts and regular training.
This is a limited-term, non-exempt position [16-40hrs/wk] reporting directly to the Crane Beach Public Safety Manager.
What You'll Need:
Skills and Experience:
- Red Cross or YMCA lifeguard training, Waterfront Certification recommended. Other programs will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Current certifications in O2, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and first responder First Aid.
- Ability to maintain concentration for long periods of time, without getting distracted, while monitoring changing patron and environmental conditions.
- Interact with the public in a way that balances both the authority of your role as a lifeguard and as a representative of TTOR.
- Ability to run one mile in a sandy environment.
- Ability to swim one-quarter mile in ocean conditions (this might include rough water and/or seasonably cold water).
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work in variable outdoor weather and water conditions throughout the summer.
- Must be able to assist with putting a boat into and out of an ocean surf.
- Some light lifting may be required.
- Driving an ATV or Gator may be required at times.
- Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
- A valid driver's license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees' driving policy.
- A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
