We are looking to recruit the right candidates who have a commitment to assisting vulnerable people with a passion to improve the quality of life for our patients.
Responsibilities:
- Support and help people with various tasks, including:
- Shopping
- Housework
- Laundry
- Personal admin
- Personal care, which includes helping a person to wash or dress, use the toilet, prepare meals, take medicines, or manage incontinence.
You may be expected to handle the most personal of tasks. If you think you’re unable to handle nudity, bodily fluids, and any associated mess, you probably aren’t cut out for care work. Remember that there was a first time that every care assistant had to help someone with personal tasks; it’s personal, it’s private, and we aim to make this process as dignified as possible.
Working with people who are unwell can also mean that most care assistants will eventually deal with people receiving care towards the end of their life. Sometimes, you may even arrive at a client’s home to find they have died. This can be sad or traumatic, but as one of our care assistants, we’ll ensure that you are prepared to cope with the death of a client and are supported afterwards to process and move on from the experience.
It’s important to acknowledge that care work can be messy, upsetting, and tiring, but it is also one of the most rewarding jobs anyone can do.
