Wirral Met College is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Interim Head of Maths and English to lead the department on a full-time basis until mid-July. This role offers an exciting opportunity to drive quality and achievement across both subject areas within a dynamic and inclusive FE college known for its commitment to learner success and community engagement.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for managing and coordinating the English and Maths provision across the college, ensuring high standards in teaching, learner outcomes, and departmental leadership. The postholder will work closely with senior leadership and vocational curriculum teams to embed Maths and English effectively and achieve strategic targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for English and Maths departments
- Improve achievement and high-grade attainment in line with college KPIs
- Oversee curriculum planning, staff performance, and quality assurance processes
- Lead quality improvement strategies, inclusive pedagogy, and learner progression
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to support vocational integration of core subjects
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience as a Head of English and Maths within an FE setting (exceptionally, a secondary setting with robust leadership experience may be considered)
- Strong understanding of curriculum development, quality assurance, and performance management in English and Maths
- Full teaching qualification and relevant degree or equivalent
- Available full-time and able to commit until July 2025
