You will be a vital part of our Head Office operations, ensuring all visitors are treated according to our values.

We're looking for a volunteer who can commit to helping out regularly on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 1pm to 5pm. Alternative time slots can be arranged in agreement with the Manager.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing the highest standard of service to visitors
  • Ensuring visitors are greeted in a warm and friendly manner and offered tea/coffee
  • Informing staff and volunteers that their visitor has arrived
  • Showing visitors to the allocated meeting room
  • Supporting staff with any other work that can be undertaken from the reception desk area, e.g., admin relating to post, making calls, data input
  • Contributing to keeping the reception area tidy
  • Contributing to keeping meeting rooms organised, tidy, and ready for use
  • Providing support and guidance to new volunteers to help them settle into their roles
  • Promoting the public’s understanding of the work of Isabel Hospice

Your Skills and Abilities:

  • Enjoy working in a team environment
  • Enjoy working with the public
  • Good organisational skills
  • Able to use MS Office applications, e.g., Word, Excel
  • Demonstrate and keen to develop good customer care skills

Benefits to you:

  • Meet new people and learn new skills
  • Work with a friendly team and be part of the Isabel family
  • Contribute to the provision of care to our patients
  • Comprehensive induction and training
  • Support with your career goals and personal development
  • Opportunities to learn from long-term volunteers and staff

Am I eligible to volunteer?

We ask that our volunteers are:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Live within an easy commute to the area
  • Interested in volunteering for at least 6 months for at least 3 hours per week

All volunteers are assessed individually for the roles they are applying for. We strongly believe in equal opportunities and welcome applicants who are representative of our diverse communities. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Isabel Hospice guidelines. Have a professional and courteous manner in accordance with Isabel Hospice policies. Demonstrate Isabel Hospice values. Identify yourself as a volunteer while carrying out your duties. All appointments are at the discretion of the management team and are subject to a one-month trial period for both parties.

Please note this is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. Isabel Hospice is a local charity caring for hundreds of people across eastern Hertfordshire each year. All our care is free and can be provided in your home, at our community hubs, or our In-Patient Unit. Most of the people we care for have cancer; however, we are also increasingly caring for people with other life-limiting conditions.
