We are seeking Receptionists at our Head Office to welcome visitors and assist with various admin duties.
Our Head Office is where our non-clinical teams are based. These include Fundraising, Finance, Retail Operations, Facilities, and Donation Centre. This is a people-facing role; you may be the first interaction a visitor has with Isabel Hospice – and first impressions are important! You will be a vital part of our Head Office operations, ensuring all visitors are treated according to our values.
We're looking for a volunteer who can commit to helping out regularly on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 1pm to 5pm. Alternative time slots can be arranged in agreement with the Manager.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing the highest standard of service to visitors
- Ensuring visitors are greeted in a warm and friendly manner and offered tea/coffee
- Informing staff and volunteers that their visitor has arrived
- Showing visitors to the allocated meeting room
- Supporting staff with any other work that can be undertaken from the reception desk area, e.g., admin relating to post, making calls, data input
- Contributing to keeping the reception area tidy
- Contributing to keeping meeting rooms organised, tidy, and ready for use
- Providing support and guidance to new volunteers to help them settle into their roles
- Promoting the public’s understanding of the work of Isabel Hospice
Your Skills and Abilities:

Am I eligible to volunteer?
We ask that our volunteers are:
- At least 18 years old
- Live within an easy commute to the area
- Interested in volunteering for at least 6 months for at least 3 hours per week

Please note this is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. Isabel Hospice is a local charity caring for hundreds of people across eastern Hertfordshire each year. All our care is free and can be provided in your home, at our community hubs, or our In-Patient Unit. Most of the people we care for have cancer; however, we are also increasingly caring for people with other life-limiting conditions.
