Overview: We are recruiting for a Band 5 Substance Misuse Nurse at HMP Send and Coldingley. At Forward Trust, we deliver comprehensive drug and alcohol services within the prison environment, including advice, health and wellbeing support, motivational work, clinical services, and group treatment programs. Our services are commissioned by NHS England and delivered in partnership with healthcare providers and HMPPS, emphasizing integration and collaboration. We aim to support individuals affected by substance issues to achieve lasting change, reducing dependency, homelessness, unemployment, and re-offending.
Role / Team Overview: The successful candidate will provide nurse-led clinical and psychosocial interventions to individuals with substance misuse issues in a prison setting, utilizing and expanding nursing skills to make a positive impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Assessment & Care Planning: Conduct assessments and develop personalized care plans.
- Treatment Delivery: Administer and monitor prescribed treatments, including medication-assisted therapies, following clinical guidelines.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work with healthcare professionals, prison staff, and external agencies for holistic care.
- Health Promotion & Education: Provide health education and promote recovery and well-being.
- Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate records in compliance with standards.
- Safeguarding & Risk Management: Identify and address safeguarding concerns and manage risks appropriately.
Note: All prison-based roles require enhanced DBS and HMPPS security vetting, which can take 8-12 weeks. Offers are contingent upon clearance.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid NMC PIN
- Minimum of one year post-registration experience
- Interest or experience in substance misuse nursing
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
Desirable:
- Experience in a prison or secure healthcare setting
- Knowledge of substance misuse treatment protocols and harm reduction
- Additional qualifications in substance misuse or mental health nursing
