Operating since 1989, the Company engages with innovative and challenging projects that will give a solid foundation for a future career within Port and Shipping. The Port Operative Apprentice programme is run for 2 years and upon successful completion, this leads to a transition into a promoted role of Multi Skilled Port Operative.
These are exciting times, and the company is aiming to successfully recruit a number of persons as Port Operative Apprentices. A Port Operative Apprentice will gain front-line operational experience in:
- Loading/unloading vessels
- Vehicles
- Cargo handling
- Plant operations
- Warehousing/storage
- Complex operations
Port and Shipping experience is NOT essential as all training will be provided with full support from the company and its external partners. The Port Operative Apprentice will be based at one of our three Ports on the Humber (Immingham, Hull and Goole) but will also gain knowledge and experience from ALL operations across the Humber.
The Port Operative Apprentice will have a designated Line Manager and a Mentor to assist them through the 2-year pathway while they undertake their continued professional development. Throughout the 2-year period, the Port Operative Apprentice will be expected to hit key milestones. A range of training courses will be provided, including:
- Port Operative foundation course
- Slinging/signalling
- Lifting operations
- Warehousing
- Plant/machinery
- Forklift truck
- Health and safety
- Quality
- Environmental management
The candidate must be flexible to cater for the changing demands of the Port and Shipping sector. As a guide, a normal working day ranges from 6 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, with weekends being on an as required basis.
