Magellan Aerospace Blackpool has an exciting opportunity for a CNC Machinist - G4 Manual Cylindrical Grinder.
Full Time Permanent Contract
38 hours per week
Monday – Thursday 7:30am – 4pm / Friday 7:30am – 1:30pm
Job location: Blackpool Business Park, Amy Johnson Way, Blackpool, FY4 2RP
Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.
This role is governed by ITAR, restrictions may apply.
Machining of aircraft components from generated engineering drawings to prescribed customer specification specific attention being paid to the running of cylindrical grinding machines.

Essential Responsibilities
- A Grade 4 position has been fully signed off against the operation of manual and CNC grinding with particular attention around cylindrical grinding
- Setting and operating Manual and CNC grinding machines
- To be able to operate multiple machines at all times during shift when safe to do so
- To communicate efficiently and effectively with the supervisor, manager and colleagues
- To carry out component change overs for own machines and colleagues if required
- Carry out de-burring of components, including removal of sharp edges and cleaning of holes
- Route work as necessary to next operation as per work instructions or team leader direction
- Ability to resolve machining problems with minimum supervision
- Escalation of unresolved problems to Shift Leader, Team Leader or Manager as required
- Provide accurate handover information to next shift on current status and any issues arisen
- Ensure all job card documentation is filled in correctly before moving onto next operation
- To work in line with all company requirements including following work-to list and set up sheets
- Housekeeping and maintenance of own working environment including keeping area free of spills
- Work in a safe manner complying with all risk assessments and procedures in line with company Health and Safety policy, reporting any Health and Safety incidents that occur
- Actively support and contribute to the continuous improvement programme and lean manufacturing
- Any other reasonable duties required by management in support of the business
Skills / Knowledge Requirements
- Academic: Good general education, Recognised Engineering qualification, minimum of City & Guilds/NVQ in Mechanical Engineering, HNC Qualification
- Experience: Minimum of 2 – 3 years of cylindrical grinding experience both manual and CNC, Knowledge of Controls, Aerospace manufacturing experience desirable
- Key Competencies: Motivation, Attention to detail, Housekeeping Skills
