About the Role:

As part of the Operations management team within Hart Learning and Development, you will have operational oversight of the functional skills team, with responsibility for the management and planning of the sector to help reach our business objectives. Members of the functional skills team also provide first line Additional Learning Support to our Apprentices, which you will also be responsible for managing. You will contribute to the governance requirements and support the Head of Apprenticeships in setting the business direction.

We have staff based nationally and operate hybrid working practices. You would be expected to be on site at our base location in Stevenage at least twice a month and would be part of the management team, required to attend monthly managers meetings (remotely or in person), team training events held throughout the year, and leadership development sessions.

Hart Learning and Development is the business arm of North Hertfordshire College. We deliver Apprenticeships, traineeships, and professional qualifications locally, nationally, and regionally. Our Apprenticeships Offer focuses on Health, Business, Construction Trades, management, and professional courses and provides training to large clients such as John Lewis Partnership and Lloyds Banking Group through to local SMEs. As a team, we employ 50 staff and have an annual turnover of £5,000,000.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the delivery of a range of commercial, full cost and apprenticeship-component programmes in maths and English, ensuring consistently outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment delivery.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and management of first line Additional Learning Support (ALS) for apprentices on programme. Where necessary, liaise with the specialist ALS team to ensure all relevant apprentices are fully supported.
  • Compliance check ALS claims from the first line team.
  • Take full responsibility for managing, supervising, monitoring, and supporting a team of Tutors in their delivery of a positive learning journey by motivating, engaging, and fully supporting them to achieve their expected key performance indicators including Functional Skills Success rates.
  • Effective team management including communication, recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Co-ordinate the set-up of new programmes including OneFile plans, timetables, rooming, learner registrations and enrolments, schemes of work, and delivery plans. These include funded non-qualification courses.
  • Ensure apprentices complete their Functional Skills qualification in a timely manner and that End Point Assessment is not affected by this.
  • Lead through department collaboration and work closely with the data team to ensure learner achievement is being claimed in good time and monitor ILR data as part of the monthly business cycle to ensure learner data is accurate, including but not limited to achiever claims, breaks in learning, reinstatements, and withdrawals.
  • Manage and maintain tutor’s caseloads and plan any required actions swiftly through monthly 121’s. Manage quarterly progress reviews planning with tutors for all learners to ensure reviews are carried out timely and are of high quality.
  • Contribute to the Hart Learning Group Quality cycle, performing developmental and formal observations and supporting tutors to develop.
  • Lead and manage the highest quality compliance and qualification requirements from the start of the Apprentice journey to the end across the team of tutors and their Apprentices, ensuring risks are proactively mitigated.
  • Monitor and drive the team’s actions through data decisions to proactively identify risk management.
  • Plan timetables supporting key account managers and ensuring schedules deliver to the highest standard and accurate progress updates.
