As a Designer on our Kidswear, you will support the Senior Designer in designing and developing comprehensive ranges in conjunction with the Buyers and wider trading teams, ensuring that the product and ranges reflect the current market and Matalan's customers.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake market research to identify the latest trends, colours, and fabrics, as well as Matalan's competitors' ranges.
- Provide advice and insight on initial samples, ensuring that the manufactured garments match initial design specifications.
- Liaise with the Buyers on costs/margins to ensure that the range can realistically be bought within the given budget.
- Undertake factory visits and competitive shopping trips in the UK, USA, and Far East with full reports and feedback to the Buying and Design teams.
- Occasionally attend fit meetings to ensure the look, fit, shape, and quality of each garment is correct, approving lab dips, trims, and fabric where necessary.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Junior Designer, preferably within the Kidswear department.
- Degree educated, ideally in Fashion, Textile, or Graphic Design.
- Advanced Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills.
- Strong technical and creative design skills, including the ability to design prints and graphics.
- Strong verbal and communication skills.
