Macgregor Black are pleased to be recruiting a Property Accountant to join a highly successful retail business in Derbyshire. This role is a unique opportunity to combine your technical property accounting expertise with commercial insight. You’ll play a key part in supporting acquisitions, managing the integration of new freehold properties, and maintaining the financial health of our existing portfolio. You’ll also shape the future of our retail property strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the financial reporting for the property portfolio, including lease accounting, rent, service charges, and capital expenditure.
- Support the acquisition, purchase, and integration of new freehold properties into the portfolio, either by share or asset purchase.
- Maintain accurate financial records for all property-related entities, ensuring compliance with IFRS and UK accounting standards.
- Review and investigate variances between actual and budgeted/forecasted results, providing actionable insights to senior stakeholders.
- Reconcile all relevant balance sheet accounts for property-related entities.
- Manage and develop one direct report, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and best practice.
- Assess performance, set objectives, and support their professional development.
- Act as a key finance business partner to multiple departments, including Property, Legal, and Commercial Analytics, as well as external managing agents.
- Provide commercial recommendations to senior stakeholders, leveraging financial insights to support decision-making.
- Present monthly finance reports to the line manager and senior finance leadership, summarising key findings and performance metrics.
- Lead the preparation of budgets and forecasts for property-related cost lines and income streams.
- Produce and review monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Build detailed financial models to support acquisitions and long-term planning.
- Support group and statutory audits for relevant property entities.
- Ensure compliance with VAT regulations related to property transactions and service charges.
What We’re Looking For:
- Fully qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent).
- Strong experience in property accounting, with knowledge of lease accounting, IFRS 16, and UK GAAP.
- Proven track record of working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to handle multiple demands.
- Leadership or managerial experience, including developing team members.
- Excellent IT skills, particularly advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- Experience in a similar role within the retail or property sector.
- Knowledge of VAT regulations and service charge reconciliations.
- Familiarity with property management systems such as MRI, Yardi, or equivalent.
