Your skills will save lives. The RNLI is one of Britain's best loved charities. Every day we save lives at sea – and you can be part of our vital mission. Experiencing some of Britain's most stunning coastlines, you will travel around Somerset, Devon, and Dorset as you work on the cutting-edge facilities, assets and equipment at our Lifeboat stations and Lifeguard support centres.

About the job: We are looking for a Regional Technician and we’ll look to you to make your mark and really get stuck in. Whether you’re modifying our equipment, scheduling planned preventative maintenance, rectifying defective equipment, overseeing contractors or directing stock control, you’ll ensure our technology performs as well as our teams, so we never let anyone down and you’ll enjoy the unique satisfaction of doing something truly life changing.

About you: In addition to working on our inshore and all-weather Lifeboats, you will find yourself involved with our Lifeguard equipment, Jet ski, Quads, Ford Rangers, and various launching equipment. This means you could join us from an agricultural, commercial, plant, military or vehicular background. At the same time, you will require:

  • A Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds or HNC qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Broad electrical knowledge.
  • Proven ability to use your initiative and operate independently.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • A good level of physical fitness is preferable as you may spend some of your time at sea.
  • A time-served apprenticeship in a marine or vehicle-based setting (ideal but not vital).
  • IOSH Working Safely, Working at Height, PASMA and PA testing certification (again useful but by no means crucial).
  • A full driving licence is essential. A B+E licence for towing and a forklift licence would be very useful, but we will provide comprehensive training if necessary.

Some of the benefits: At the RNLI, we’re passionate about looking after our staff, so you can expect:

  • £28,334 to £33,334 (dependent on experience)
  • An exceptional pension scheme, with a 16% employer contribution.
  • 26 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Health and dental cash plan.
  • Heavy investment in your professional development.
  • Life assurance.

Your future: A career with the RNLI could take you anywhere in Britain – and anywhere you want to go. Along the way, you will enjoy the thrill of knowing that you’ve helped to save lives and the fun of operating within a team with exceptional camaraderie. What we do really matters, so you can make the sea a safer place for everyone.
