About the role:
As an Assistant Financial Accountant at Harding+, you’ll play a key role in managing indirect tax processes and supporting compliance activities. Reporting to our Compliance Finance Manager, you’ll handle critical financial tasks, including VAT returns, reconciliations, and audits, while building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met. Based in Avonmouth on a hybrid working basis – 2 days per week – this role is also available on a part-time basis for the right candidate.
Compensation: Competitive salary, bonus scheme, pension, 4 x life assurance, healthcare cash plan, 26 days annual leave (including a Christmas shutdown).
What you will be doing:
- Prepare and submit monthly UK VAT returns.
- Compile and verify data for overseas VAT/GST returns through fiscal representatives.
- Reconcile VAT control accounts monthly/quarterly.
- Post journals for VAT system and exchange rate differences.
- Support quarterly forecasts and VAT cashflow planning.
- Assist with interim/year-end audits and compliance projects.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet return and payment deadlines.
About you:
- AAT fully qualified, with an interest in VAT and compliance.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables and xlookup.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to managing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and meet compliance deadlines.
- Knowledge of UK/overseas VAT returns and multi-currency experience is advantageous.
- Experience in travel or retail is desirable but not essential.
- Must have an existing right of eligibility to work in the UK.
