A rare and exciting vacancy to join our growing Quantock Outdoor Education team.

Requirements:

  • You must have a full UK Driving Licence and access to a reliable car with Business Insurance.
  • You must have and be able to provide your right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer sponsorship.

Additional Information:

  • This is a Term Time only post and you will be working Monday – Friday, 08:30am – 16:30pm. Flexibility will be considered for the right candidate.
  • Salary: £21,600 per annum, increasing to £23,760 per year upon successful completion of the probationary period or upon evidence of at least 6 months' experience working with SEN children/adults in a residential or one-to-one setting.
  • If successful, an Enhanced DBS check for Child and Adult Workforce with barred list checks will be required.

Quantock Outdoor Education, part of the Empower Family Group, is an alternative education provision delivering high-quality learning and outdoor experiences to children and young people with additional learning needs and/or emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our skilled team devises and delivers bespoke learning programmes designed specifically to support the needs of our vulnerable young people and works closely with schools across the Southwest to deliver an all-inclusive education provision. We place our young people at the centre of what we do and aim to make the National Curriculum accessible to all.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To organise and deliver a range of sessions as part of the curriculum offer.
  • To identify the needs of young people within the service and help develop and promote programmes.
  • To support the implementation of equal opportunities policy and practice across the service area.
  • To work in partnership with other agencies to promote and develop opportunities for young people to participate in a range of outdoor learning programmes.
  • Lead in the delivery of bespoke outdoor education packages for learners with mixed abilities.
  • Assess risk and act upon any issues identified.
  • Deliver learning programmes on outdoor activities and related topics, e.g. nature, geography and history.
  • Prepare educational resources.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a dynamic individual with enthusiasm for outdoor learning to join our growing team. You will need to have sound communication skills and be able to positively engage and motivate young people. It would be desirable to have experience of working with young people and delivering a range of outdoor education programmes; however, full training will be provided.

This role is subject to the successful applicant having an enhanced DBS check for child and adult workforce with barred list checks. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare any convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings that are not protected (i.e. that are not filtered out) as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013 & 2023).

Requirements:

  • Communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young people.
  • Ability to deliver a wide variety of programmes that support the development of young people.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Experience of working with young people.
  • Orienteering Qualification.
  • Level 2 Coaching Paddle Sports Certificate.
  • Walking Group Leaders Award.
  • An understanding of outdoor education processes, health and safety, child protection, risk assessments and the importance of risk assessing to enable rather than restrict.
  • Experience of positively engaging young people from challenging backgrounds, including young people with disabilities.
  • Experience of coaching outdoor sessions.
