The Division of Student Affairs fosters student growth and development. The Division aids, directs and informs students about services and programs that will expand students’ educational experiences and prepare them for diverse lives in local and global communities. The Division is responsible for many of the outside classroom/off campus aspects of student life at ECSU, including student engagement and leadership, career services, student disability services, residential life, student activities, community standards, special programs and services, student health and wellness, and counseling services.

The objective of the Educational Opportunity Center at Elizabeth City State University is to increase the number of low-income, first-generation adults who enroll in postsecondary institutions within seven counties in Northeastern North Carolina. These seven counties include Beaufort, Chowan, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrell, and Washington.

The Temporary University Program Specialist of EOC provides direct support to the EOC program administering and carrying out a variety of services related to achieving the goals and objectives of EOC Services, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Director of EOC.

Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position

  • Professional Knowledge: Knowledge of program policies, procedures, technology, best practices and their theoretical bases. Ability to interpret and apply a variety of interrelated policies, procedures, and programs for clients and to address clients’ non-routine issues.
  • Program/Project Administration: Ability to administer and/or manage a program with established guidelines and standards in its entirety or to administer several components of a multi-faceted program. Ability to ensure program/project accountability.
  • Consultation: Ability to advise and collaborate with clients, program participants, and others to resolve difficult issues in assigned program area(s).
  • Information Analysis and Decision Making: Ability to analyze business operations and/or financial statements for overall program administration.
  • Communication and Marketing: Ability to maintain and enhance professional relationships to increase credibility for building support and reaching consensus when explaining and interpreting program policies and procedures within assigned area(s).
  • Leadership: Ability to develop and manage a program/project plan. Ability to provide consultation on issues and requests from clients.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Management Preferences: Master’s Degree preferred, Bachelor’s preferred in Education, Program Development, Counseling, Student Affairs, Curriculum and Instruction or other related field; Two years of experience coordinating and developing academic programs and co-curriculum programs in an educational environment preferred.
