Make a difference just by being you. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the day-to-day operations of the Donation Centre by helping to receive donations, load and unload the van and help with general maintenance.
There is no minimum time commitment that we expect from our volunteers so whether you can do a few hours a week or once a month, we’ll do our best to offer a role that fits in with your schedule. No previous experience is necessary as training will be provided.
What happens next? If you decide to apply, a member of the volunteering team will contact you and ask you to come in for an initial chat. This is not an interview, just a chance to get an idea of how you’d like to help. From there you can meet the rest of the volunteer team and get involved with whatever area of the Donation Centre takes your interest!
Why we want you: Our Volunteer Warehouse Assistants play an essential role in the smooth running ‘behind the scenes’ of our retail department while raising vital funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
What you will be doing:
- Loading/unloading the charity van
- Packing and unpacking deliveries
- Sorting and categorising donated items
- Preparing donations for sale
- Communicating with staff and volunteers from shops and donation centres about deliveries and collections
- Some light maintenance tasks
- Keeping the Donation Centre clean, tidy and well organised
The skills you need:
- Someone who is reasonably active – this role involves lots of heavy lifting, bending and carrying
- Someone who is good at working as part of a team but also able to work independently when required
- A hardworking, enthusiastic and helpful attitude
- Someone who is willing to follow guidance and processes
- Reliability is essential
