Old Swinford Services Limited seeks to appoint two self-motivated, hardworking Cleaners to work 30 hours per week, all year round.

About OSH

Old Swinford Hospital is one of the country’s leading state boarding schools. The majority of the School’s students are boarders who come from a wide range of backgrounds in the UK and also from the EU and overseas. A third of our pupils are day pupils, who usually go home after lessons, unless they are involved in sport or music, CCF or DofE. The School is now on an exciting journey to become fully co-educational by September 2025.

Job Specification

The Cleaner is responsible to the Site Manager via the Cleaning Supervisor. The Cleaner shall:

  • Ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained throughout the school on a daily basis;
  • Be responsible for an area and will be expected to clean to the frequency and standards set out;
  • Ensure standards and procedures are adhered to;
  • Deal with any emergency cleaning call outs throughout the afternoon when required;
  • Use cleaning materials appropriately, as instructed and economically; inform the Cleaning Supervisor when stocks are low;
  • Ensure that tools and equipment are in good working order, reporting any faults to the Cleaning Supervisor;
  • Contribute to major cleaning tasks during school holidays;
  • Assist with heavy duty cleaning when required;
  • Empty and clean bins and remove waste to designated area, including the separation of waste, i.e. recycling;
  • Clean internal glass and internal and external door glass;
  • Ensure windows and doors are closed and lights switched off;
  • Report to the Site Manager any defects seen which are likely to affect security;
  • Use electrical and mechanical equipment after appropriate training;
  • Use only approved cleaning materials in accordance with manufacturers printed instructions and COSHH regulations;
  • Be aware of their responsibilities for Health & Safety of themselves and others;
  • Complete any training required;
  • Undertake such other duties as any member of SLT, Site Manager or Cleaning Supervisor may reasonably require.

Hours and Remuneration of Work

This is a permanent, 30 hours per week, all year round position. The pattern of work will be:

  • Monday 07.00 – 12.30
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 07.00 – 12.00
  • Saturday 07.00 – 11.30

Employees are expected to be co-operative in working outside these hours if necessary. Overtime is not paid. The salary will be national minimum/living wage and you will be entitled to 20 days’ annual holiday each year plus UK statutory public holidays. In line with current regulation you will, if you are eligible, be offered a workplace pension through NEST.
