The school is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Sports Coach to work with students who have SEND and SEMH needs. The successful candidate will deliver and adapt physical education and sports sessions that cater to the individual abilities and needs of the students, fostering a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive both physically and emotionally.
Main Responsibilities:- Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive sports sessions tailored to the needs of students with SEND and SEMH requirements.
- Modify activities to ensure that all students can participate fully, regardless of their physical, emotional, or cognitive challenges.
- Encourage a positive, team-oriented environment that promotes self-confidence, emotional well-being, and resilience in students.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other support teams to align sports activities with students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Monitor and assess student progress, offering constructive feedback and celebrating achievements.
- Use sport and physical activity to help students regulate emotions, develop social skills, and build self-esteem.
- Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, understanding their individual needs and providing emotional support through sport.
- Ensure all activities are carried out safely and in line with health and safety regulations.
- Qualifications: Relevant sports coaching qualifications or a degree in Physical Education or Sports Science. Additional qualifications or training related to SEND or SEMH are highly desirable.
- Experience: Prior experience of coaching or teaching children with SEND and/or SEMH needs is preferred.
- Skills: Ability to adapt coaching techniques to meet the diverse needs of students with physical, emotional, or behavioural challenges. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and understanding approach. Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. A creative approach to engaging students in sport and physical activities.
