Grade: Case Worker
Reporting to: Local Management Team
Portfolio: Women Leaving Prison Project
Contract: Fixed term – 3 years
Hours: 35 hours per week, rota based across 7 days including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
Scope of Responsibility
To be a member of a multi-disciplined team using holistic approaches to support Depaul service users. Working to a housing-led, low threshold, harm reduction approach, where service users receive a high degree of support and advice. Depaul is committed to service user participation and empowerment.
The role aims to support and signpost service users to improve their housing, health, and wellbeing, enhancing their quality of life through engagement, support plans, targeted interventions, signposting, and group work. Building strong relationships and trust with service users is essential.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Service user focus
- Provide respectful, person-led support.
- Assess safety and wellbeing needs; develop plans to address risks.
- Support engagement with services, stabilisation, and settling into accommodation.
- Develop supportive relationships, support plans, and reduce re-offending.
- Handle challenging behaviour and crises responsibly, liaising with professionals.
- Develop and review Resettlement Plans with service users.
- Assist individuals in identifying and maintaining suitable move-on accommodation.
- Work with external agencies for effective key working.
- Support community integration and advocate for service users.
- Provide outreach work based on needs.
Health & Safety
- Ensure health and safety standards are met.
- Manage risks using security systems and conduct safety checks.
Administration & Record Keeping
- Maintain client records, reports, incident logs, and manage IT security.
Other duties
- Participate in team activities, training, and mentoring.
- Maintain professionalism and high standards aligned with Depaul’s values.
Flexibility to cover other roles and work on a rota basis is required. Community outreach case workers must have access to a car insured for business purposes and a valid driving license.
This post is subject to an Enhanced Access NI check and NISCC registration, to be completed within the probation period if not already held.
Person Requirements
- Level 3 qualification in social care or equivalent.
- At least 2 years paid experience working with vulnerable women, preferably with women leaving prison, or 3 years with similar experience.
- Level 2 qualifications including Math and English (e.g., GCSEs).
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of risk assessment, homelessness issues, and support planning.
- Good IT, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Understanding of statutory and voluntary sector resources.
