Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant (Pediatrics) WEEKENDS ONLY Student
Woburn Pediatric Associates, LLP (WPA) is currently seeking a part-time Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant to join our in-house Clinical Lab team.
This part-time 12 – 15 hours/week position is located in our Woburn office. The job requires availability to work both days of each weekend from 8:00 am – close, with shifts lasting 5–7 hours during summer and 6–8 hours in fall/winter. We are open on weekends and some holidays for sick appointments and newborn visits. We offer a $3.00/hr weekend differential. Additional hours may be available during the week but are not guaranteed.
The reliable, proactive, and collaborative professional in this role works in a team environment to ensure smooth daily operations of our busy pediatric clinical lab, with a primary focus on quality care for our young patients.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Obtaining specimens for testing through blood draws and other methods for processing and testing in our in-house laboratory.
- Following established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Ensuring test results are properly entered into Epic, our electronic medical record (EMR) system, and made available promptly to the provider.
- Monitoring test results from outside labs to ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
- Following policies and procedures when test systems deviate from performance standards, proactively identifying problems, correcting them or notifying the lab team lead, and documenting all corrective actions.
- Adhering to quality control policies, documenting QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
- Maintaining records demonstrating proficiency testing is conducted similarly to patient samples.
Experience/Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Class in phlebotomy or willingness to learn phlebotomy required.
- Pediatric experience is strongly preferred but not required.
- Clinical lab experience is preferred but not required.
Skills/Qualities:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, supportive relationships with patients, families, team members, and providers.
- Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
- Proficiency in MS Office and EMR systems required; prior Epic experience preferred.
- Attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Positive, proactive attitude and a \’CAN DO!\’ approach.
- Commitment to confidentiality and protecting patient health information.
