Chester Race Company are proud to present an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the Maintenance team as a Groundsworker on a permanent contract, based in the heart of Chester. If you have a good eye for detail and quality, this is the perfect role for you. The Groundsworker will play a pivotal role in ensuring all areas across all company sites are prepared to a high standard to allow for maintenance work including new buildings and repairs.

About Chester Race Company: Chester Race Company Ltd is one of the North West's best-known and most-admired brands. It is an evolving organisation with a broad portfolio but retaining Horseracing at its core. The Company operates three racecourses, Chester, Bangor-on-Dee and Musselburgh, in Scotland. At Chester, we also own and operate a hotel, a vibrant pub and have other property interests in the city.

General responsibilities include:

  • Preparation work for any ground's projects
  • Remove existing tarmac and prepare ground for tarmacking contractors
  • Repair roofing tiles and gables
  • Prepare and complete blockwork jobs as per schedule of works
  • Prepare and complete paving jobs as per schedule of works
  • Dig drainage and sewer lines
  • Fitting lines to existing drainage systems
  • Jet washing, sweeper litter picking as required
  • Assist with race day setup

The successful Groundsworker will have the following:

  • Previous experience working in grounds, drainage blockwork and paving
  • Holds in date digger, dumper and telehandler licenses
  • Able to work to set deadlines
  • Good eye for detail
  • Commitment to quality and a high standard of finish

Salary: £27,500 to £29,000 per annum

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, working hours are 08:00 - 16:30. Evening and weekend work is expected in line with business needs. This role is based in Chester with occasional travel in the UK and therefore a reliable commute to Chester city centre is essential.
