- About the Role:
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Drama department, ensuring the delivery of an engaging and high-quality curriculum across all key stages, likely including GCSE and A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies.
- Develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies and resources to inspire students and foster a deep understanding of dramatic techniques, theatre history, and performance practices.
- Lead, support, and mentor a team of Drama teachers, fostering a collaborative and creative departmental culture.
- Oversee the planning, direction, and production of school plays and theatrical performances, ensuring high standards and providing opportunities for students of all abilities to participate.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning within the department, implementing strategies for continuous improvement and sharing best practices.
- Contribute to the broader extracurricular life of the school, potentially leading or supporting drama clubs, workshops, and theatre trips.
- Manage departmental resources effectively, including budgeting and the maintenance of performance spaces and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with other Heads of Department and the Senior Leadership Team to contribute to the overall artistic vision of the school.
- Ideal Candidate:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in Drama or a related field.
- Significant and successful experience teaching Drama at the secondary level, with a proven track record of leadership, raising student achievement, and directing successful theatrical productions, including experience with GCSE and A-Level.
- A deep and current understanding of the Drama curriculum, assessment requirements, and innovative pedagogical approaches in the performing arts.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both students and a team of teachers.
- A demonstrable passion for drama and theatre, with a strong understanding of different genres, styles, and practitioners.
- Experience in curriculum development, assessment, departmental budgeting, and the technical aspects of theatre production.
- A commitment to fostering creativity, building confidence, and developing teamwork skills in students through drama.
