Pay range
Base pay range: £46,272 for Birmingham and Cardiff based, and £50,899 for London based. The actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
Role overview
The Policy Associate is a senior role that carries substantial responsibilities and opportunities to influence the policy direction of the SRA. You will make an informed contribution to a range of policy projects in consumer policy, especially in the high-volume consumer claims area. The role involves developing, delivering and implementing policies that protect consumers of legal services and promote the rule of law.
You will plan, organise and manage work streams within complex and high-stakes policy development projects, applying robust project management techniques. You will become an expert on policy issues you may not be familiar with and will carry out rigorous analysis to create innovative policy solutions. Engagement with stakeholders internally and externally, including at executive level, is a key part of the job. Understanding regulatory tools, the evidence base, and the values of equality, diversity and inclusion will support effective policy outcomes.
Beyond traditional policy delivery, you will help identify and deliver new ways to achieve objectives through piloting, collaboration, partnership and influence.

What we are looking for
- A strong influencer who communicates confidently, clearly and concisely to all levels of stakeholders
- Ability to understand complex policy issues and apply analysis and judgement to develop practical solutions
- Excellent drafting skills producing high quality work in a range of formats for a range of audiences, including well-argued, evidence-based papers for executive and Board level stakeholders
- Experience of policy development, including in complex policy areas, and understanding of regulatory and research tools and technology to achieve desired outcomes
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work constructively with colleagues of all levels, establishing influential relationships
- Experience in consumer policy would be desirable

Locations
You will be based in the office nearest to your location (Birmingham, Cardiff, or London). Two to three days per week are expected to be worked in the office, with the remainder of the week from home. Occasionally travel between offices or to other sites may be required.
