This placement opportunity is based at Capability Green, Luton, home to the Electronic Warfare Line (EW) and Major Air Programmes (MAP) lines of business. The engineers based at this site work with the latest technology to develop a wide range of products for both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms, including airborne sensors, protection, countermeasure and integrated mission systems.

The nine-week Summer Placement Programme has been created across our UK sites to increase your technical skills and provide the opportunity to work on meaningful real-life projects alongside experienced engineers and graduates. You will receive coaching and support to achieve your personal goals and work in multidisciplinary teams to gain as much experience across the product lifecycle as possible. Successful placements may result in an offer to return for further placements or for an offer on our Graduate Development programme. This programme is remunerated at £25,000 per annum.

What you’ll do as a Summer Placement Student:

  • Be involved in a variety of tasks in one of the following engineering disciplines: Software, Systems, Mechanical, Hardware, Firmware, Microwave or Antenna Engineering.
  • Provide support to real projects and apply knowledge gained while studying in a practical way.
  • Undertake activities including designing, testing, qualifying and supporting technology across our range of products.
  • Communicate with team members to gain information before completing objectives and examining outcomes.
  • Deliver small packages of work to time, cost and quality.
  • Work within a team to achieve project targets, collaborate across multiple disciplines and solve problems.
  • Gain an understanding of the EW domain to support the development of relevant products and technologies.
  • Complete tasks to a high standard in accordance with appropriate processes and procedures.
  • Use the opportunity to develop engineering skills with mentoring from a supervisor.

What we need from you:

  • A minimum of a predicted 2:1 grade in a relevant degree discipline.
  • Preferred degree disciplines include Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other STEM subject degrees.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to solve technical problems.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to use the MS Office suite of tools.
  • MATLAB/Simulink experience beneficial.
  • Attitude and interest in engineering and/or science.

Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance, typically known as “SC”, which includes having a minimum of five years permanent residency in the UK.
